Mac’s Wins in Whole Hog Competition at Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival

Mac’s Speed Shop smoked its way to a 2nd Place Reserve Grand Champion-Whole Hog trophy at the Beer Bourbon & BBQ Festival in Charlotte last Saturday, May 13. Seventeen hard-charging and hard-charing teams went jowl-to-jowl in the annual Carolina BBQ League’s “BBQ Backyard Competition” in Symphony Park at SouthPark Mall. Festival-goers got to see the competition teams’ mad skills and drool over their rigs, along with visiting barbecue vendors, attending seminars in the tasting theater and enjoying live music all day long.

“We consistently compete and place in the Memphis BBQ Network (MBN), Kansas City BBQ Society, and Carolina BBQ League events,” says Mac’s Head Chef Kevin Kuruc. “No other Q joint in the Queen City can say that — especially not stores likes Mac’s with multiple restaurants in multiple markets.”

Mac’s Speed Shop has been saucing up North Carolina’s barbecue scene since it opened its first restaurant in a renovated transmission shop on South Boulevard in Charlotte’s South End. Now lovers of Mac’s nuanced cooking style, regional sauces, delicious Southern sides, and extensive beer selection can enjoy it all at locations in Charlotte’s Steele Creek, Lake Norman, Matthews, Fayetteville, Greensboro and Greenville, S.C.

Next Mac’s is headed to an event billed as America’s most prestigious barbecue cooking competition at Memphis in May, held May 17-20. Next stop for the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival is May 20 in Knoxville.
