Charlotte Business Journal: Charlotte restaurant snags win in high-profile BBQ competition

Mac’s Speed Shop took its show on the road last weekend, traveling to Memphis, Tenn., for what is sometimes called the “Super Bowl of swine” — and the restaurant didn’t return to Charlotte empty-handed.
Mac’s took fifth place in the for the 2015 Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest’s whole hog category. The local restaurant brought home a trophy and $750 in prize money.

Charlotte Magazine noted this year marked the eatery’s sixth year of competing in the contest, which draws some 300 teams from around the world. Its previous best finish was 13th place, according to that post.
Known locally for its barbecue, beer selection and biker-friendly atmosphere, Mac’s first opened in 2005 on South Boulevard. The restaurant now has locations in Steele Creek, Lake Norman, Fayetteville and Greenville, S.C., plus another planned for Greensboro.
